TheCarseatMom's Quick Review:

The Ride Safer 2 Travel Vest has long been a favorite among parents who have tight backseats or who travel frequently. Since there’s no plastic frame, it allows children to fit in narrow spaces and is lightweight. It’s also a great product for situations where only a lap belt is available for older children. This vest is designed for children ages 3 . Use is straightforward but requires parental guidance since the vest must be installed each ride. The child puts the vest on and it’s adjusted to fit snugly. The parent then “installs” the vest using the vehicle seat belt and clips provided on the vest. If the vest is used in a seating position where a lap-only belt is available, the top tether must be used.

For the large size vest, the top tether must be used whenever a lap-only belt is used. For children weighing more than 60 lbs., a lap/shoulder belt must be used and/or a higher weight tether must be obtained from the manufacturer.

A new version of the Travel Vest, the Ride Safer 3 Travel Vest, is available now for use with lap/shoulder seat belts only.

Pros: compact, makes traveling easier
Cons: a process to buckle, does not fit all kids at the minimum listed, child has easy reach of buckle

We bought this for our then 5yr old to use for our move from EU to the US. It fit great in our carry on bag and he used it in the vehicles we were in for 2.5 weeks. We now keep it stored in the car for emergency situations.

This seat is a pain to buckle and unbuckle. We do not use it often for this reason. I would not trust a child to remember to buckle everything correctly so it is more time consuming.

This vest does not fit all 3 yr old and 30 lbs children the same. For some, it will be too big and not fit properly. It also put the child in reach of the buckle, meaning the child has to be booster ready to be able to use this.

My son did great in it and even slept in it, we tried my 3 yr old in it recently and it did not go well. We drove 3 blocks in the neighborhood and she unbuckled and moved out of position.

I would recomend this seat for the travel aspect and for a mature child. I do not regret buying it and would have paid the full price. It is worth it to not have to fly with 3 car seats.
